The Sunday Stretch
This chilled stretching routine focuses on relaxing the mind and stretching the body. Perfect for any Sunday.
The Sunday Stretch is a 40 minute full body stretching routine, starting with a gentle warm up where we mobilise the joints before increasing the range of movement and finishing with a deeper muscle stretch. It is a continuous program with the routine changing weekly, stretches for the major muscles of the chest, stomach, butt and thighs are all included, with emphasis on different areas each time. The more complex joints of the shoulder and hip are also always in the routine in one shape or form, as is the back due to the large muscle surface area and number of vertebrae joints. Stretches for the lesser areas of the hands and feet are given some thought throughout the routine too.
With over 650 muscles and 360 joints in the human body, combined with the different planes and axis each joint can move through there is plenty of variety to add to a full body stretching routine every week. By changing the weekly routine your body will experience new stretches and you may become aware of unbalanced or less flexible areas you could target through the week.
By synchronising your breathe and movements you will use mindful breathing to help to soothe and unwind both body and mind. Using a controlled exhalation during the deeper stretches to release tension from the muscles will allow the development of greater long lasting flexibility.
The Sunday Stretch is delivered through a private Facebook group, posted at 7am every Sunday for the early risers to use as a morning wake up stretch and is available for the whole day. Morning walkers, runners, cyclists, or any sports enthusiasts can use it as a cool down routine when returning home, or it can be enjoyed later in the day to help relax into the evening.
