Hello,
I trained in Clinical Mat Pilates, taught by an Osteopath where we would assess clients and write training programmes to meet their needs, this works very well and can also be achieved in a class situation. The movements can be very small to isolate, control and strengthen certain muscles, or to relax opposing muscles to allow a stretch improvement. This helps to build better posture and range of motion at each joint, which is beneficial to everyone whether you are looking to improve in sport or daily life. It is true that Pilates is for everyone. It’s all really quite fascinating, the human body is truly AMAZING. This past year I have been taking lessons in Classical Pilates with teachers whose teachers were taught by Mr Joe Pilates himself!! These sessions are a little bit different to ours, they follow the original 34 moves created by Joe Pilates almost 100 years ago, some of the moves are used in the average Pilates class, others not so much, but when they are put all together in order for a full session I call it sweaty Pilates!! I will admit I have laughed so much during some of the more difficult movements, but perseverance over a few sessions and it starts coming together, I have personally gained so much in both full body and core strength from working this regime. I’ve also laughed as the teachers make comments like connect your heels to your lower belly!! The anatomy geek in me said ‘What??!!’ With a little practice it doesn’t take long until you are feeling those core warming full body connections. It’s been a new direction of body awareness; one I can only describe as Holistic Fascia Training. Again – It’s all really quite fascinating, the human body is truly AMAZING. And so is Pilates. I will continue with my own classical training and hope to bring it to Alento classes in 2022, for now you can book on to a Pilates Introduction course (Wednesday 6.30pm or Friday 10.30am) or choose one of the other available classes. Here is the full timetable. Book Here Thank you for reading, in future I will be sending a monthly Pilates News, I hope you find these interesting, please feel free to get in touch at any time and maybe I’ll see you in a class soon.
